The annual Family Fun Day in Heidelberg on Sept.7th was another huge success.

The Heidelberg Recreation Association hosted the event, which included an afternoon filled with games, bouncy castles, mini train rides, face painting, live music by Rob Witherspoon and a visit from the St. Jacob’s Fire Dept.  There was also a 50/50 draw, a large silent auction and a tasty BBQ sponsored by Gemini Motors.

A sunny day drew a big crowd eager to enjoy the family friendly activities and all proceeds from the event are in support of upcoming recreational events as well as new playground equipment.

“It’s such a great way to get people together,” says Julie Tribou, volunteer coordinator for this year’s fun-filled day. “This is the 2nd year we’ve held this. It was held years ago, but that was when the old building was here. Once we had the new building, we decided to restart it.”

The new Community Centre came to be in 2017 and the building is used for all sorts of community events.  Community members are welcome to rent the space for birthday parties, picnics and BBQ’s and the Heidelberg Recreation Association holds various community activities throughout the year including karate, zumba and Home Alone courses for kids.

“We really want to make the Family Fun Day an annual event because it’s been so successful these last two years,” said Tribou. “This is the one time in the year where we really all have the opportunity to get together.  All the families come out to connect, have fun, enjoy the weather and make good use of this park. It’s the one day.”

Tribou says all funds raised will help support future activities put on by the Heidelberg Recreation Association as well as a new playground structure which was recently deemed unsafe.

The event was sponsored by Gemini Motors, R.K. Construction Group, Jones Feed Mills Ltd. and CT Tooling.

“We’ve had a lot of companies and individuals donate to the auction,” Tribou said.

“And we’ve had so many volunteers help out. We really appreciate it and we could not have done it without them.”
