Summer and fall have given us so much to be thankful for and experience in and around our communities.
The Cambridge Fair, one of many Fairs offered in Waterloo Region, celebrated its 180th year. My family – my son especially – had a great time. Like so many did. Thank you to the organizers and all the volunteers for keeping this time-honoured tradition alive year after year.
Another local tradition is the St. George Applefest in Brant County, which marked 35 years and experienced one of the hottest days this September but that didn’t stop the crowds; it didn’t stop the vendors from selling out of some of their goodies either! I look forward to seeing everyone for the 36th St. George Applefest in 2020.
And, of course, it would not be October in Waterloo Region without Oktoberfest. Since 1969, the region has been enjoying Canada’s greatest Bavarian Festival – the second-largest Oktoberfest in the world outside of Munich. Congratulations to this year’s Oktoberfest Women of the Year recipients and nominees. Thank you all for making a difference in our community. Prost!
I also hope that you had an opportunity to celebrate Thanksgiving with your family and friends, reflecting on our many, blessings, opportunities and what makes our region – all our communities – so special.
With November upon us, it’s time to honour and remember our veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we can enjoy our many freedoms. I hope you are able to join a Remembrance Day service close to you, or take time on November 11th to reflect on how fortunate we all are for the men and women who serve and have served our country so bravely. May we never forget.

May we all be thankful for our many blessings and opportunities as Ontarians and as Canadians.
I am thankful, and humbled, every single day to serve the communities of Cambridge, North Dumfries, and Brant, both locally and at Queen’s Park.
I look forward, as always, to seeing you out in the community.
