Letter from MPP Mike Harris

Ontario has officially launched phase 2 of the COVID-19 vaccine roll out plan. Between now and the end of June more than nine million Ontarians will be eligible to receive their first dose. This includes those 55 or older, adults with high risk health conditions, frontline health care staff, and those living in high risk settings.

Vaccine rollout is a team effort. No single level of government can do it alone. With the federal government responsible for procurement, we are relying on them for an adequate supply so that we can administer as many doses as possible. Ontarians deserve nothing less.

At the time I am writing this, we’ve administered over 3 million doses. 85% of those over 80 have received their first shot and 22% of all Ontarians have gotten a dose. In under two weeks, a million vaccines have gotten into arms. If we can keep up the supply, we will reach our target by the end of June.

In Waterloo Region, there are over 70 sites administering vaccines.. In Elmira, those 55 plus can get a shot at Shoppers Drug Mart. There are now two vaccine clinics in our rural Townships being run by local public health; in Wellesley and in Ayr. Family doctors at Nith Valley Family Practice are also administering doses and those in Baden can contact Baden Village Pharmacy. For a full list of sites and to find out how to make an appointment, I encourage you to go to You can also visit Region of Waterloo Public Health and Emergency Services’ website or call 519-575-4400 to get information.

I know that you and your family have been asked to make unimaginable sacrifices this year and that we are all eager to turn the corner on the pandemic. The only way to do that is through vaccines. When it is your turn, I strongly encourage you to make an appointment and get vaccinated. The sooner we all are, the sooner we can get together again. If you require assistance in booking an appointment or have questions about the eligibility criteria, my office can help. We can be reached at 519-669-2090 or

Keep well and stay safe,

Mike Harris
