It was mighty muscle madness as engines roared at this year’s Moparfest in New Hamburg.

Canada’s largest Mopar car show featured over 1800 cars and thousands of spectators were in attendance, eager to have a look.

The annual event took place at the New Hamburg Fairgrounds on Aug. 18-19 and Paul Mann from Kitchener, says he never misses it.

“I just love cars and coming out here, you get to see some of the old with the new,” Mann said.

“There’s a reason why it’s so big. Look at these cars.”

The car show which celebrated its 40th year, continues to feature some of the best vehicles including Dodge, Jeep, Ram and Fiat.

From Dodge Chargers to the Dodge Lil Red Express, the fairgrounds were full of rumble.

Organizers say the event usually attracts about 20,000 people over the course of the weekend, drawing car enthusiasts from all over Canada and the United States.

The show raises around $150,000 annually for different community services, and in total more than $3.15 million has been raised for the not-for-profit event.

In the past funds from the event help support various community and youth groups including:
The New Hamburg Optimist Club, the Kitchener Waterloo Optimist Club, the Sunshine Foundation, New Hamburg Soccer, the New Hamburg Lions Club, New Hamburg Girl Guides, New Hamburg Legion, Wilmot Family Resources, Wilmot Heritage Fire Brigade, Lakeshore Optimists Club, the New Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department, the New Hamburg Food Bank, the Baden Optimist Club, Air Cadets and New Hamburg Jr. Hockey.

Moparfest was founded in 1979 by members of the Old Chrysler Corporation Auto Club (OCC Auto Club). The Club was established as a non-profit organization with a common interest in Mopar vehicles.

Members arranged a car show to display their vehicles and later opened it up to include all Mopars.

And every year since, the event continued to grow having expanded into a two day show and moved from Heidelburg to New Hamburg.

This year, the event also offered a flea market, a variety of food vendors, workshops, a full hot breakfast, draws, a live band and helicopter rides.
