Q: Does my pet really need a rabies vaccine?
A: Rabies is a virus that is primarily transmitted through saliva in bite wounds, and is almost always fatal. There has been a recent re-emergence of rabies in Ontario, and our pets are at risk if they come in contact with infected wildlife. Even indoor pets are at risk of contracting the virus if they were to escape, or if a rabid animal was to get in the home (ie. bats). In Ontario, it is a legal requirement to have your dog or cat vaccinated for rabies.
