The Grimoire of Kensington Market by Lauren B. Davis
Maggie is the first person to ever break free of elysium’s hallucinogenic effects. For years she has been trying to forget her past, working instead at a bookstore that only shows itself to people who are meant to be there. However, when a note appears from her brother, whom she has not seen in years, she has to leave her new home in order to bring him back. If the note was delivered, then it must be destiny for her to go on this mission… Right?
I’m so happy I decided to pick up this book. When you first go into it you might think it is just a simple story about addiction, but it is so much more than that.
We follow Maggie as she discovers a whole new reality and is forced to question everything around her. She, along with the readers, never truly understands what is going on, except for the main goal of getting her brother back. It is through this fantastical atmosphere that the reader is transported into Maggie’s mind as she pushes her way through one impossible event after another.
Lauren B. Davis does such a fantastic job at making the world seem so absurd yet so realistic at the same time. Through her words you get placed into a reality that shouldn’t make sense, yet does. The way she builds the setting and her characters will let you walk into a whole new dimension that you will never want to leave.
If you’re looking for a story full of unimaginable wonder and love, The Grimoire of Kensington Market is the novel for you.
