By this point in the season, burgers can start to get a little boring. Take your burger game up a notch and let turkey out of the roasting pan and onto the grill! This recipe features ground turkey, celery, onion and granny smith apples and is an absolute crowd pleaser. Skip the bun and wrap it in lettuce or eat it with a fork. Some of my favourite toppings for this burger are hummus, sliced avocado and tomato, fresh sprouts & dill pickles.
1 lb ground turkey
3 granny smith apples, peeled & finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/4 c oats, to hold mixture together
1 lime, freshly squeezed
Salt & pepper
Worcestershire sauce, a few dashes
Sauté apple, onion & celery. Set aside and cool before mixing into turkey. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Mixture will be moist but will hold together much better if you refrigerate the patties for ½ hour before grilling. This recipe will make about 7 patties. I often double or triple the recipe and freeze the extras.
