Originating from Manitoba, Canada, Jordan Janzen and James Shiels began The Color after a season in life when they thought they were letting go of their music dreams.
“James and I had played in a high school band for a few years and it encompassed all of the high school desires and dreams that come with that.” recalls Jordan. “We were going to be famous! Then, when James moved away to go to Bible college, things just sort of came to an end.”
In 2012, the guys decided to make a record with the songs they had written and, with a desire to begin spreading their music. They put a band together with Larry Abrams and Tyson Unrau and hit the road.
“The thought behind the name ‘The Color’ comes from the idea that color brings life to the world around us.” Larry shares. “That is what we want to do with our lives and music. We want to bring life and a message of hope that we know can only be found in Jesus Christ.”
I caught up with The Color in Cambridge at the end of May as they toured with John and Tim Neufeld’s Starfield reunion tour. As the band has matured and entered a new chapter of their life called fatherhood, their newest hit “The Kind of Man” reflects their passion. It has a powerful message of men striving to be their best.
If you haven’t heard it yet, definitely worth a download! Here is an excerpt from the song:
‘Lord, make me a man who loves his kids and loves his wife
Lord, make me a man who always stands for what is right
Who’s strong enough to fight a war
By falling to his knees
‘Cause that’s the kind of man
That’s the kind of man I want to be’
